General Practice Nursing: A New Dimension in Primary Health Care
RHEF Program
The Rural Health Education Foundation is running a program on Tuesday 24 November 2009 at 8pm on General Practice Nursing: A New Dimension in Primary Health Care. This program will discuss the professional issues in practice nursing, as well as suitable models of practice, training and education, indemnity, and the wide variation of roles among practice nurses. RCNA Primary Health Care Conference
8-10 November 2009, Adelaide
With the government’s renewed commitment to primary health care, the opportunity exists for the nursing profession to shape the future role of primary health care.
The aim of the inaugural RCNA Primary Health Care Conference is to explore opportunities for greater integration of nursing services in the delivery of primary health care and to critically debate and analyse how the nursing role will function alongside other health care professions.

Impact evaluation template
The NiGP program requires that all education and training provided to PNs that has been funded must be impact evaluated.
Evaluation is about attributing value to a program by gathering reliable and valid information in a systematic way, for the purpose of making more informed decisions. Impact evaluation assesses whether the program has had the effect it is designed to have.
E-learning package for MBS item 10997
AGPN, in partnership with the Royal College of Nursing Australia and Batchelor Institute of Indigenous Tertiary Education have launched an e-learning package to support Medicare Item 10997.
The modules can be accessed on the RCNA 3LP website at the following web link www.3lp.rcna.org.au/10997.
The package consists of a prerequisite foundation module and a series of disease-specific modules that cover the topic areas of arthritis, asthma, cancer, coronary heart disease, dementia and diabetes. A new Kidney health module is under development and due for inclusion into the package in the near future.
The package will be available free of charge until 31 August 2009, after which time a charge will be levied. Please note that all modules will need to be completed prior to 31 August to not incur a fee.

Sail the 7C’s and learn about the testing and treatment of Chlamydia
The 7 C’s of Chlamydia is an online learning module developed for nurses about a common sexually transmitted infection – Chlamydia. Sail the 7C’s and learn about the testing and treatment of Chlamydia. The module was developed by Sydney Sexual Health centre, NSW STI Programs Unit and General Practice NSW and is hosted at www.stipu.nsw.gov.au/resources.html.
The aim is to provide brief and easy to remember information about the 7 steps involved in the testing and treatment of Chlamydia for nurses and other health staff involved in sexual health screening and education.
Chlamydia is the most commonly notifiable sexually transmitted infection in Australia. Visit the on-line learning module for self directed learning, as an in-service module or as an STI refresher.

Graduate Certificate in Nursing (General Practice)
Delivered through the General Practice Network
The Graduate Certificate in Nursing (General Practice) has been collaboratively developed by the University of the Sunshine Coast and the Sunshine Coast Division of General Practice (SCDGP). It is a unique and exciting development that is designed specifically for Practice Nurses to develop knowledge and skills to assist them to practice competently within the challenging and constantly evolving general practice environment.

Leadership and Development for Nurses in General Practice
The Australian General Practice Network (AGPN) has commissioned the University of New England Partnerships (UNEP) to establish a Practice Nurse Leadership and Development Program.

General Practice Nurse Immunisation Program Evaluation
This is a project being conducted collaboratively by the Nursing in General Practice Program at GP NSW and the University of Western Sydney. The Project aims to explore the demographic and professional characteristics of pracrice nurses enrolled in the Immunisation for Registered Nurses course, their knowledge and attitudes about immunisation and the impact of the course on their clinical practice.
