Mental Health

The Aim of the Mental Health Program at GP NSW is to:

  • provide a platform and support for the implementation and ongoing management of the Australian Government’s Primary Mental Health Care Programs;
  • develop and enhance strategic links & partnerships at a State and National level; and
  • provide general practice input into relevant State and National planning initiatives.

Activities:

  • Provide support and information to and between the NSW Divisions of General Practice for the implementation of Primary Mental Health Care Programs
  • Coordinate regional teleconferences between Divisions and relevant Area Health Services staff, and conduct a State Update Meeting to inform Mental Health Program Officers of new initiatives and best practice in the delivery of mental health and drug and alcohol programs
  • Visit NSW Divisions on an annual basis and provide feedback to the Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing and NSW Health on issues and concerns
