AIHW released a fact sheet and report about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People and their aged care support needs. The report and fact sheet can be viewed by clicking on the above link.
The report gives some information about where the ageing Aboriginal populations are located and the kind of services that they need. It highlights the differences in the needs of the ageing Aboriginal populations compared with the non Aboriginal Population.
This report would be really useful for Divisions when thinking about how to assess the needs of the ageing Aboriginal Populations and how you can include appropriate activities to meet their needs. This report could be a starting point to share with your Aboriginal Health Teams at the Division, and your Aboriginal Medical Services.
